🚨 Immigration Raids in Santa Ana: A First-Generation Latina’s Perspective on Fear, Family, and Hope 💔✨
It breaks my heart to hear terrible news about immigration raids almost daily — and all during what should be a time of celebration in my life. I’m graduating from university as a first-generation Latina, a milestone my family has worked so hard to make possible. My grandparents migrated from Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico to Santa Ana, California, in search of better employment opportunities and the hope of achieving the so-called “American Dream.” They sacrificed so much to build a better life for future generations, including me. That’s why it hits especially close to home when I hear reports of ICE agents being spotted in locations all around Santa Ana — the very city my family calls home. Santa Ana is a designated sanctuary city, meant to offer some protection to immigrant families from the threat of deportation.
